Walter Edward Youngblood died on October 20, 2025 at Franklin County Hospital in Meadville, MS. He was born near Union Church in Jefferson County, MS, where he lived all his 95 years other than those spent in college and the Army. The ninth of ten children born to William Frank and Alice Cammack Youngblood, his life was defined by love of family, land, and the church. He attended what is now Co-Lin Community College and Mississippi State University, graduating there with a degree in Animal Science.
During the Korean War he was stationed with his Mississippi National Guard unit at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. For many years, Ed raised cattle with his brother Claude on the family farm and worked the night shift at the Texas Eastern Pipeline station in Union Church. He was renowned for his gardens and his cornbread.
In 1971, he married Betty Elaine Dyess, of Laurel, MS, with whom he created a home filled with love, family, and service to Christ and his church. As faithful members of the Methodist Church in Meadville, they bore witness to their love for Christ. Their home was a gathering place for the extended Youngblood family, with generations of in-laws, nieces and nephews relishing visits to "the farm" and the attentions of "Uncle Ed."
He was preceded in death by his parents, his nine siblings, his daughter Bethany, and his wife Betty. Ed is survived by two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Wilma Dyess Croby of Baton Rouge, LA, and Ollie Mae Youngblood of Brookhaven, a host of nephews and nieces, and his faithful German Shepherd companion, Dozier.
