"Butch" Thornhill
February 25, 1941 – July 22, 2025
Walter Conley Thornhill, born February 25, 1941, was the only child of Conley Ervin and Margarite Terrell of Monroe, LA. Walter Conley, known to most as Butch, died July 22, 2025 in Baton Rouge, LA.
Butch graduated from Neville HS, Monroe, LA and attended Northeast Louisiana State College until he joined the US Army where he served 2 years in France. During his time in the Army, Butch played on the US-Europe All-Star Baseball Team. Upon returning to the US and leaving the Army, he was employed by Texaco Oil Company for 5 years.
On July 19, 1964, Butch married the love of his life, Wilma Ann Mullins, in Meadville, MS. They recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. Family members left to mourn his passing include: his wife, Ann; cousin Mary Joseph; cousin Ruthie Weinzettle; brother-in-law James P. Mullins (Ann), Bunkley, MS; nieces and nephews, Glenn Posey (Brenda), Stapleton, AL; William Mullins (Fran), Roxie, MS; Sally Mullins Jones (Howard), Natchez, MS; Dr. Kirk Mullins, Baton Rouge, LA; Gary Mullins, Biloxi, MS. Great nieces/nephews include Page Mullins, Carolyn Mullins, Lee Jones, Eliza Jones Switzer, Cena Mullins and Beth Mullins.
Following his employment with Texaco, Butch worked at Armstrong in Natchez until the plant closed. He then worked for BM Electric in Natchez until his retirement in 2009. Before and during his retirement, Butch was active with Adams County Search and Rescue, American Red Cross – Adams County chapter, and a transport driver for VA services. Butch was an avid sports enthusiast. Throughout his life, his interests included 'first and foremost anything LSU, hunting, motorcycling, NASCAR, snow skiing and he was a dedicated supporter of "all things" Trinity Episcopal Day School. Butch approached life with enthusiasm. His caring and support was unmatched.
On Friday, July 25, 2025, visitation will begin at 10:00 AM at Franklin Funeral Home, Meadville, MS. The funeral service will begin immediately following visitation at 11:00 AM. Burial will immediately follow the funeral services at Midway Cemetery, Meadville.
Remembrances in Butch's name may be made to Bunkley Baptist Church, General Fund, 329 Rand Lane, Meadville, MS 39653.
