Ruby Walker Smith, age 97, died April 1, 2013 at Forest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Services will be at Franklin Funeral Home, April 3, 2013 at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be before the services from 12:00 to 2:00 PM at Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville, MS. Interment will be at O'Zion Baptist Church Cemetery in Meadville, MS following the services.

Serving as pallbearers will be her great-grandsons.

Mrs. Smith was born December 15, 1915 in Little Springs, Mississippi, a daughter of the late John H. and Mae McGehee Walker. She retired in 1995 at the age of 80 after having been a site manager of Southwest Mississippi Senior Services in Roxie for 20 years. She also served as a house mother to the girls at the Protestant Home for Children in Natchez for a number of years.

For the majority of her life, Mrs. Smith lived in Roxie, Mississippi and attended Roxie Baptist Church. In her later years she lived in Hattiesburg, Tupelo, and Cleveland, Mississippi to be near her children.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie W. "Bill" Smith, her parents, sisters: Robbie Hammack and Laura McMillian, brothers: infant Marvin, Edward, George, Eugene, John Jr., and Edgar Walker.

Survivors are her daughter Janet Smith Brister and husband Howard of Ripley, MS, son William B. "Billy" Smith and wife Judy of Hattiesburg, MS, sister Geneva Murray and husband Lauvahn of Brookhaven, MS, and sister-in-law Dora Wallace Walker of Milford, UT. Also surviving are five grandchildren: William B. "Brad" Smith, Jr. of Hattiesburg, MS, Rebecca "Becky" Harman and husband Joe of Philomath, OR, Deborah "Debbie" Heslep and husband Robert of Cleveland, MS, Joseph H. "Joe" Brister, of Salem, MO, Justin Todd Brister and wife amber of Virginia Beach, VA, eleven great-grandchildren, Joseph, Leigh, and Phillip Harman, Jake, Luke, Kris, and Kurt Smith, Jordan Brister, and Paul, Lynn, Connor, and Bevin Brister.
