Mr. Roger Ratcliff, 78, of Meadville, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Merit Health River Oaks in Flowood with his loving family by his side. He was born on January 7, 1948 in Natchez, MS, to Loyd Dezel Ratcliff and Shirley LeBeaux Ratcliff.
He enjoyed sports, especially golf and basketball or whatever sport FC was playing at the time. He was a coach at Franklin County High School for 30 years and was a lifelong Bulldog fan. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Loyd and Shirley Ratcliff; and sister, Carolyn Sandel.
Survivors are his wife of 50 years, Marsha Ratcliff; daughter, Rose Scherer, and son-in-law Daniel Scherer; with grandchildren Noah, Sophie, London, and Roman Scherer; and son, Ryan Ratcliff with grandchildren Paisley, Kinley, and Emerson; and a host of family and friends.
Lovingly known as “Coach Rat,” Roger had friends throughout Franklin County and truly never met a stranger. Whether he was at a ballgame, running errands, or simply out and about, he always seemed to run into someone he knew. When his wife sent him to the store for an ingredient she needed, she never quite knew when he would return, as a quick trip often turned into a long visit with a friend. Roger’s friendly nature and genuine love for people left a lasting impression on everyone he met, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family request memorials be made in his name to: St. Jude’s Hospital.
