Funeral services for Mr. Rayford Eugene Mitchell will be on Monday, December 3, 2018, at Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville, MS at 1:00 PM, with burial to follow in the Steele Cemetery in Amite County, MS. Reverend John Shivers will be officiating the services, with Franklin Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be at Franklin Funeral Home on Monday, December 3, 2018 from 11:00 AM until time of service at 1:00 PM.

Mr. Mitchell, 88, passed from this life on Friday, November 30, 2018, at his residence in the Mt. Olive Community. He was born on May 25, 1930 in Meadville, MS to Mr. Ralph Mitchell and Mrs. Gussie Whittington Mitchell.

He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a Bachelor Degree in Geology.  He worked in sales in the oil industry until retirement. He served his country in the United States Navy on the USS Colahan during the Korean War. He enjoyed farming, hunting and being with his family and friends. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Ralph and Gussie Mitchell; two sisters, Edith Lancaster and Lesby Wise along with one brother, Bob Mitchell.

Survivors are his wife of 62 years, Gerda Mitchell of Hattiesburg, MS; son, Paul Mitchell and wife Debi of Flower Mound, TX; daughter, Stephanie Tubbs and husband Scot of Hattiesburg, MS; son, David Mitchell of Hattiesburg, MS; four grandchildren, Lindsay, Holly, Eric, Matthew and three great grandchildren, Alyssa, Allie, and Ava.
