Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ann Buckles, 75, of Roxie, MS, will be on Saturday, August, 26, 2017, at Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville, MS at 1:00 PM, with burial to follow in the Elmo Baptist Church Cemetery, Roxie, MS. Rev. James Hunsucker and Rev. Matt Buckles will be officiating the services, with Franklin Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be at Franklin Funeral Home on Saturday, August 26, 2017, from 10:00 AM until time of service at 1:00 PM.
A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Kokomo, IN on Wednesday, August 23, 2017 at 6:00 pm with Pastor Bob Adelsberger officiating.
Mrs. Mary Ann passed from this life on August 21, 2017, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Kokomo, Indiana. She was born October 6, 1941 to Mr. Harvey Mullins Prather Sr. and Mrs. Hannah Lehmann Prather of Franklin County.
Mary Ann was a retired housewife. She lived in the Kirby Community. She is preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, William Maxie Prather and Harvey Mullins Prather Jr. She married Rayford Buckles on Nov. 23, 1960. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Rayford Buckles; four children, Holly Sue Enlow and husband Travis of Raymond, MS, Alan Buckles of the Kirby community, Debra Ann Toth and husband Ron of Kokomo, IN, Mark Buckles and wife Becca of North Pole, AK; sisters, Ellen Harrigill and husband Jack of Roxie, MS, Lucy Buckles and husband Alfred of Omaha, NE: best friend and sister in law Jaunita Buckles Cothern and husband Marcus of Roxie, MS, along with her and Rayford's caregiver Rosie Smith of Kirby, MS.
She loved and was highly devoted to her grandchildren, Marilynn Buckles, Suzanne Sheppard (Colson), Walter Ray Davis (Leigh Ann), Derek Alan Buckles (Paige), Kendall Harrison Buckles (Grace), David James Toth (Alyssa), Cody Michael Rayls (Erin), Harvey Cameron Buckles, Jacob Alan Buckles, Richard Dean Toth (Whitney), Rayford Daryl Buckles (Amy), Brendan Colby, Alexander Paul (Renea), Heather Davis Hodges (Tim), Leigh Davis Furr (Tim), 27 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild due into the world soon, along with a host of niece, nephews and friends.
Mary Ann was employed as Activity Director at Meadville Convalescent Home and also worked at Hazlehurst Nursing Home where she enjoyed working with the residents and spending time with them.
She and Rayford lived in Peru, IN for 35 years where she was active in PTA and various school activities. They faithfully attended First Baptist Church in Peru where they were active in church, taught Sunday School, served as chairperson of different boards, headed the nursery for several years, and was involved in youth programs.
She worked for five years at Ben Franklin department store in Peru. She was on three bowling teams for which she held several offices at one time. She leaves behind a host of friends that she and Rayford have made over the years when he was in the USAF and to this day keeps in touch with them.
She will be sadly missed.
