Obituary

Funeral services for Mr. Larry A. Jones will be on Monday, January 20, 2020, at Meadville United Methodist Church in Meadville, MS at 1:00 PM, with burial to follow in the Wright's Church Cemetery in McCall Creek, MS. Rev. Rex Wilburn will be officiating the services, with Franklin Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be at Franklin Funeral Home on Sunday, January 19, 2020, from 5 PM until 8 PM and resume Monday, January 20, 2020, at Meadville United Methodist Church from 12:00 PM until time of service at 1:00 PM.

Mr. Jones, 72, of Meadville, MS, passed from this life on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Franklin Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 12, 1947 in Natchez, MS, to Mr. Oliver C. Jones Jr. and Mrs. Mildred Berniece Jones.

Larry graduated from Franklin County High School and earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Mississippi. He was an active member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He also received a Master's degree from Delta State University. Upon completing his education he returned to his home town where he served as a teacher, principal, guidance counselor and was elected to four terms as Franklin County Superintendent of Education. He served as president of the Mississippi Association of School Superintendents. He was appointed Associate State Superintendent of Education focusing on special needs children. He served on the Board of Trustees for Copiah Lincoln Community College and Alcorn State University School of Nursing. He retired from public education after serving 30 years as a public servant.  Larry dedicated his life to the students of Franklin County and contributed to the careers of untold numbers of young men and women. He touched the lives of all who met him. Larry was a member of Meadville United Methodist Church where he served many years as the Sunday School Teacher of "The WORD Processors" class.  He also served as Lay Leader, choir member, Council on Ministries, chairman of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee, and Administrative Board. He loved God, his church, his fellow church members, his friends, and most of all, he loved his family. He was truly a remarkable man of integrity and a faithful prayer warrior.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Oliver C. Jones Jr. and Mildred Berniece Jones.

Survivors are his wife of 50 years, Pat Jones; sons, Ty Jones and wife, Melanie of Flora, MS and Cory Jones and wife, Marty of Jackson, MS; granddaughter, Hannah Katherine Jones; cousins, Wanda Jones Sturm, Lisa Coleman Mulloy, Alan Jones, Michael Coleman and Shane Coleman.

Pallbearers are Greg Duncan, James Hutto, Jimmy Jones, Gary Hurst, Gary Buckels, and Alan Jones.

Honorary pallbearers are James Michael Martin, Bo Gabbert, Ed Youngblood, Bubba Gabbert, Matt Holt, Brad Jones, Michael Coleman, Shane Coleman, and Bob Kimbrough.
