Jonni McCaskell Ferguson, 66, of McCall Creek, MS, passed from this life on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at her home in McCall Creek, MS after a short battle with cancer. Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 from 11:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 PM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Smithdale. The graveside service will follow at Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Marvin Howard will officiate the services. Franklin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Pallbearers are Michael Littlejohn, Scott Ferguson, Derrick Sullivan, Mark Douglas Hutson, Leslie Buckley and Cammie Gray, Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Dequay Allen, Brent Davis and Landon Nelson.
Mrs. Ferguson was born November 7, 1947 in McComb, MS to James Thomas and Lena Stevenson McCaskell. She attended Oakdale School and then moved to Jackson where she graduated from Forrest Hill High School. After graduating, she worked for the Clarion-Ledger form many years. In 1980 she met her best friend and husband Owen Riley Ferguson and they married and moved to Maryland. Upon his retirement in 1988 they moved to McCall Creek to be near family. Jonni worked for 10 years at Walmart in McComb and loved her job, meeting new people, and her co-workers where she made many new friends. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. She loved to fish and anything to have her family all together. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and was called "Minnie" by her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James Thomas and Lena Stevenson McCaskell; and brothers, James and Wilburn McCaskell.
Survivors are her husband of 33 years, Owen Riley Ferguson, Jr.; sons, William and Happi Ferguson of Florence, MS, and John and Karen Littlejohn of Hattiesburg, MS; sisters, Margie Smith and Juanita Boggs; grandchildren, Katelynne Ferguson, Michael Littlehohn, and Scott Ferguson; great granddaughters, Alyssa and Kyleigh Ferguson; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
