John Allen Thomas, 78, of Meadville, Mississippi passed away on April 28, 2021, at the Meadville Convalescent Home in Meadville, Mississippi. He was born December 19, 1943 in New Orleans, Louisiana, the son of the late J. B. Thomas and Aline Vernie Cupit Herndon.
John landed a job with King & Co. in 1965. This kickstarted a career in construction, where he worked for over thirty years.
He enjoyed, many, many things. Among those things were hunting, fishing, chopping wood, good music, sweets, New Orleans Saints, and above all, people. His most famous quote, that he said many times throughout his life, was "They may not know me when I get there, but they will know me when I leave."
His family and friends knew him as a good-hearted soul, who always had the right thing to say (even if it was wildly inappropriate). John was known for his long, entertaining stories which he loved to report often.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. B. Thomas and Aline Vernie Herndon and his son, Ronald Thomas.
John is survived by his wife of thirty-nine years, Debra Thomas. One daughter Julie (Jake) Buckels. Two grandchildren Scott Causey and Charley Buckels and a host of cousins, family, and friends.
Pallbearers will be Tootie Arnold, Ben Arnold, Jessie Arnold, Sawyer Pepper, Andy Shelly, Will Buckels, Jason Golman, and David Cupit.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Shannon Lee, Randy Arnold, Vernon Arnold, David Nichols.
