Mr. John Wesley McFarland, 95, was called into the presence of the Lord on April 24, 2015 at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Meadville, MS. Mr. McFarland was born at Meadville, MS, September 12, 1919 to Mr. William Rufus McFarland and Mrs. Winnie Elizabeth Sullivan McFarland.
Visitation will be at Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville, MS on Sunday, April 26, 2015 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM and continue Monday, April 27, 2015 from 9:00 AM till time of service at 10:00 AM. The graveside service will follow in the Sarepta Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Mike Morris and Rev. Bobby Davis will officiate the services. Franklin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. McFarland was a retired oil field worker. He was also owner and operator of Meadville Texaco service station for many years. Mr. McFarland served our county during World War II, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was awarded the "Silver Star" medal for gallantry during combat.
Mr. McFarland was known for his hard work. He love the old time farming with a mule, coon hunting, and animals of all kinds. He loved to work and take care of his family. He was affectionately known as "John Boy".
Mr. McFarland is preceded in death by his parents, William Rufus and Winnie Elizabeth McFarland; sisters, Ula Christine McFarland, and Alene Phyfer and granddaughter, Amy Michelle McFarland.
Survivors are his wife of 70 years, Hattie Marie Terrell McFarland; brother, William Earl McFarland; sons, Hubert Wayne McFarland and wife, Sue, Douglas Terrell McFarland and wife, Susan, Michael Eugene McFarland and wife, Mary Ann; Daughter, Rebecca Sue Dawson and husband, Kent; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren, along with a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers are Bryan McFarland, Dewayne McFarland, Chris McFarland, Pat Foster, Billy White, Toler Smith, and Trey Bales.
Honorary Pallbearers are Austin McFarland, Donnie McFarland, Jeremy
Holland, Ryan Holland, Blake Smith, Bryce White and Slade Bales.
