Mr. James (Jimmy) Woodcock, 83, was called home from this life on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at Meadville Convalescent Home.
Visitation will be at Franklin Funeral Home on Thursday, January 15, 2015 from 5:00 PM till 8:30 PM and continue Friday, January 16, 2015 from 10:00 AM till time of service at 11:00 AM at Hopewell Baptist Church in Bude, MS. The graveside service will follow in the Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Tony Mullins and Sister LaJoy Touchstone will be officiating the services. Franklin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Jimmy was born September 24, 1931 in Glasgow, Kentucky to Roscoe and Pearl Gravens Woodcock. He was a member of Hopewell Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a deacon for many years.
Mr. Jimmy was gifted with a beautiful voice that he enjoyed using to sing hymns and Southern Gospel. He blessed the hearts of many, through the years as he and his wife, Lucille, sang at church homecomings, dinner on the grounds and special events.
He owned and operated "Woody's Restaurant" in Liberty, MS for many years. Along with the great food, Mr. Jimmy would assure there was a fun and enjoyable atmosphere as he would share stories and provide the antics to bring joy to the hearts of all. Accompanied through several of those years, by his granddaughter "sidekick", Heather Woodcock.
He influenced, granddaughter, Dana Woodcock, through listening to all his stories and others, to develop the Woodcock family tree.
Mr. Jimmy loved sports.
He touched the lives of many children and youth through the countless hours, he volunteered to coach, teach, and direct young athletes. Many he touched, hold fond memories of his direction and guidance.
Mr. Jimmy loved life. He touched many with his smile and personality. He will be deeply missed.
He was a loving father and grandfather of Heather Woodcock Emory, Heath Woodcock, Wade Woodcock, Dana Woodcock and Lee Anna Woodcock, also a great grandfather that loved his family very much.
Mr. Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mrs. Lillian Lucille Woodcock and brother, Bryant Woodcock.
Survivors are his sons, Vance Woodcock (Billie Jo) of Meadville, MS and Vincent Woodcock (Angie) of McComb, MS; sister, Sandra Woodcock of Glasgow, KY, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren, along with a host of friends.
Pallbearers are Stuart Wentworth, Steve Wentworth, Robin Wentworth, Heath Woodcock, Wade Woodcock, and Brian Emory.
Honorary Pallbearers are Louis Wentworth, Rayford Touchstone, Allen Lee, Jerry Lee, Roger Lee, Jimmy Cater, Thomas Cater, Mike McFarland, John Roger Priest, Lonnie Ray Priest, Ronnie Priest, Mitch Priest, Adam Priest, Brett Priest, Rusty Bass, Ricky Bass, Mike Zumbro, Mike Priest, Oliver Jones, Harold Poole, Darrel Woodcock, Bryant Woodcock Jr., Randy Ray, and Dr. William Larkin.
