Funeral services for Mr. Herbert Thornton will be on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville, MS at 11:00 AM, with burial to follow in the Midway Cemetery in Meadville, MS. Officiating the services is Rev. Tony Mullins and Pastor Tim Bedwell. Visitation will be at Franklin Funeral Home on Wednesday January 31, 2024 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and resume on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM.
Mr. Thornton, 90, of Meadville, MS, passed from this life on January 27th in Brookhaven, MS. He was born on April 7, 1933, Meadville, MS to Mr. Sydney Noel Thornton and Annie Mullins Thornton.
He was a Christian man who was the pillar of his family and held close to his heart the Fruits of the Spirit.
He enjoyed: family get-togethers, telling stories from the past, raising gardens - not only for his family, but for others in the community, helping his neighbors, giving to others, watching sports, and living life to the fullest.
Preceding him in death were parents, Sydney Thornton and Annie Mullins Thornton; his wife of 65 years Pauline Thornton, son Herbert Noel "Bubbie" Thornton, Jr.; Brothers Sydney, Rudy, and infant brother. Sisters: Earnestine McCartney, Mae Ivey, Annie Laura Summerall, Lucille Leonard, Bessie Higginbotham, Pearl Holland, and infant Imagene Thornton. Survivors are his sons, Larry Thornton and wife Julie of Rock Spring, GA, Gary Thornton and wife Angela of Brookhaven, MS; grandchildren, Cassie (Caroline), Burt, Krystle, Garrett (Rachel), Travis, Olivia, Zach; great grandchildren, Bella, Elyse, Addi Grace, Colt, Bryson, Smalls, and Malekai, along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family members.
Pallbearers are Travis Thornton, Zach Thornton, Robert Lynn Thornton, Jerry Ivey, Bobby McCartney, and Randy Arnold.
Honorary pallbearers are James Mullins, Jamie Herring, Dale Bryant, Kimbo Waguespack, and Randy Martin.
The family requests memorial donations be sent to the Midway Cemetery in Meadville.
