Dr. Harold Augustus Anderson, 87, of Eddiceton, MS, passed from this life on Friday, April 7, 2023, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Meadville, MS. He was born on June 29, 1935, in Jacksonville, FL, to Conway Anderson Sr. and Nellie Mae Mosley Anderson.
At 18 years of age, Dr. Anderson married the love of his life, Gladys Marie Brogdon. As a young man, Dr. Anderson served as a song director and deacon in his local church in Jacksonville, FL. He surrendered to the call for ministry and began his education at Baptist Bible Institute in Graceville, FL, in 1968. Dr. Anderson received his B. A. degree at Mobile College in Mobile, AL, in 1971. He then received his Master of Divinity degree at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1974 and his Doctor of Theology degree from Luther Rice Seminary in Jacksonville, FL, in 1982. Dr. Anderson pastored churches in Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi with his wife, Gladys, serving alongside him. In Franklin County, he pastored Bude Baptist Church for several years, with his final pastorate being McCall Creek Baptist Church. He was the pastor of McCall Creek for 20 years and retained his membership there. Dr. Anderson loved his church, and on December 10, 2019, they named him Pastor Emeritus in honor of hi faithful service.
Preceding him in death were his parents and his wife, Gladys; sisters Dorothy Anderson, Ellen Smith, Helen Smith, and Loraine Spellman; and brothers Conway Anderson Jr. and Joseph Anderson.
Survivors are his daughters Cindy Lee Cater, and husband Jimmy of Eddiceton, MS, Terri Meggs and husband Mickey of Aberdeen, MS, and Karen Touchstone and husband Ronnie of Eddiceton, MS. He has eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly, as well as a host of family and friends.
Pallbearers are Ronnie Touchstone, Jimmy Cater, Mickey Meggs, Spencer Touchstone, Jantsen Touchstone, Michael Meggs, Chad Mulkey, and Rudy Blanco.
Honorary pallbearers are Brandon Touchstone, Peyton Touchstone, Braxton Touchstone, Lindsey Coggin, Ethan Coggin, Noah Meggs, Jack Meggs, Lennon Mulkey, and Jaylin Harris.
Funeral services for Dr. Anderson will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Bude Church of God in Bude, MS, at 7:00 PM. Rev. Taylor Chisolm, Rev. Tim Bedwell, Dr. Jantsen Touchstone, and Sister LaJoy Touchstone will officiate the services, with
Franklin Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be at Bude Church of God on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, from 5:30 PM until the time of service at 7:00 PM. A private, family-only graveside service will occur the next day at Byrd's Chapel Church of God Cemetery with Rev. Taylor Chisolm officiating.
The family would like to thank Dr. W.B. Larkin for caring for Bro. Harold and his family for many years, as well as Dr. Kimberly Estes for caring for Dad in his later years. We would also like to thank all Meadville Convalescent Home and Franklin County Memorial Hospital employees for treating our dad like family and providing such thoughtful care. We want to say a special thank you to Debbie Buckels for being Daddy's special guardian angel here on earth.
