Obituary

Funeral services for Mrs. Gussie Maye Wentworth will be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Franklin Funeral Home in Meadville, MS. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday, January 9, and from 1:00 to 2:00 PM Saturday. Bro. Pat Sullivan and Bro. Mike Walker will be officiating the services, with Franklin Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Wentworth, 89, of Meadville MS, passed from this life on January 7, 2026 at Franklin Memorial Hospital. She was born on July 24, 1936, to her parents Rev. Jesse Denman Griffin and Gussie Greer Griffin.

She spent most of her childhood in Brookhaven, MS, and was a 1956 graduate of Brookhaven High School. After marriage to Harold Wentworth, she moved to Meadville. She retired from the state after working 25 years in the Welfare Department. Not enjoying retirement, she went back to work; spending time at the Baptist Children's Village in Clinton, then several years in administration at King's Daughters' Hospital in Brookhaven. She finished up her working life helping her husband at Franklin County Ambulance Service until his retirement and its closure in 2012.

She loved cooking for her family, and enjoyed studying her bible, sewing, crocheting, and drawing.

Preceding her in death were her parents; infant son, James Denman Wentworth; sister, Faye Hillman McKey; and grandson, Nigel Wentworth.

Survivors are her husband of 68 years, Harold Wentworth, Sr.; sons, Hal "Wimpy" Wentworth (Laura) and Forrest Wentworth (Denise); brother, Jimmy Griffin (Cathy); 3 grandsons and 8 great grandchildren, Yancey Wentworth (Melanie) [Niley, Cash & Hollyn], Cliff Wentworth (Amanda) [Kaylee & Cassie], Brandon Wentworth (Robyn) [Jack, Eliza, & Shiloh]; and a host of family and friends.

Pallbearers are Yancey Wentworth, Cliff Wentworth, Brandon Wentworth, Ayden Harrell, Landon Harrell, and Barry Cotten.

Beloved Friends and Honorary Pallbearers are Miss Cooter Smith, Jan Hays, Doodle Smith, Jack Wentworth & Cash Wentworth.
