Obituary

George W. Strother, 89, died November 19, 2013, at the Meadville Convalescent Home in Meadville, MS. Visitation is Thursday, November 21, 2013, at 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Smithdale, MS. Graveside service will follow at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. Bro. Marvin Howard will be officiating the services. Franklin Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

Pallbearers are David Strother, Daniel Strother, Morgan Magaha, Doug Podany, Chris Mattox, and Festus Wallace. Honorary pallbearers are Randy Jones, Brandon Ward and Stephen Strother.

Mr. Strother was born January 4, 1924, in Westover, AL to George W. (Sr.) and Hattie Lee Johnston Strother. He served in the US Navy during World War II on the USS Pampanito. He was a retired realtor. He was of the Baptist faith and attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He was a longtime resident of Pensacola, FL. He loved his family and friends, and fishing.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years: Jean Strother of McCall, MS; daughters: Pam Strother of Pensacola, FL, and Marla Strother Magaha and husband Wendel of Elberta, AL; sons: Gary Strother and wife Rosana of Woodstock, GA, and Mark Strother and wife Denise of McCall Creek, MS; sisters: Willowdean Mae Strother Gardner and Charlotte Strother; 15 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers: Marvin Strother and Rudolph Wayne Strother.
