Mrs. Oglesby, 88, of Natchez, MS, passed from this life on Monday, August 12, 2019, at Southwest Regional Medical Center in McComb, MS. She was born in Franklin County on November 30, 1930 to Mr. Houston Bluford Stroud and Mrs. Francis Ota Stroud.
She was born and raised on Hominy Ridge in Franklin County and lived all but the last 5 years of her adult life in Natchez.
She dearly loved her family. She had such a special place in her heart for her mother and daddy and was a loving aunt and loving sister to Lonnie and Ruby.
She delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and nourished them with love and food. She was known by all for her chicken and dumplings, biscuits, tomato gravy, and an abundance of pecan pies. Spending the night at Grandmother and Pa's and waking up to a hot biscuit with butter and sugar was a joy each grandchild treasured, and a family gathering was not complete until Grandmother's chicken and dumplings were on your plate. She was talented at the sewing machine, and she loved to watch a baseball game, loving it even more if one of her own was on the field. Her love was a treasure to us all and will soothe us as we grieve her passing.
Preceding her in death were her husband of 63 years, Howell Leon Oglesby; parents, Houston and Francis Stroud; brother, Lonnie Stroud and sister, Ruby Smith.
Survivors are her sons, Howell Randolph Oglesby and wife Dana of Tuscaloosa, AL, Keith Leon Oglesby and wife Tammy of Natchez, MS; daughter, Marsha Ratcliff and husband Roger of Bude, MS; grandchildren, Kyle Oglesby of Tuscaloosa, AL, Anna Kniphfer and husband Andrew of Tuscaloosa, AL, Rose Scherer and husband Daniel of Amarillo, TX, Ryan Ratcliff and wife Amy of Flowood, MS, Rachael Oglesby-Hall and husband Milton of Lexington, SC, Daniel Oglesby and wife Tasha of Natchez, MS; great grandchildren, Emma Kniphfer, Noah Scherer, Sophie Scherer, London Scherer, Roman Scherer, Paisley Ratcliff, Kinley Ratcliff, Emerson Ratcliff, Eli Oglesby, Aubrey Oglesby, Sam Hall and Charlie Hall.
Pallbearers are Kyle Oglesby, Daniel Oglesby, Ryan Ratcliff, Andrew Kniphfer, Milton Hall and Daniel Scherer.
