Fred escaped the bonds of this earth on August 18, 2012, after a long bout with cancer. He was born on January 9, 1930, to the late Fred and Lucile Sullivan Evans. He was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi, worked 16 years as an insurance adjuster and then as a truck driver. He was a member of Airline Baptist Church, Grand Lodge of Mississippi and El Karubah Shrine. He loved people, especially his grandchildren. His passion was his Sunday School Class and getting widows and children to Sunday School, playing the piano, "fixing" things, and tinkering on cars.
Preceding Fred in death are his parents. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Joyce Fortenberry Evans; three daughters, Laurie Durnin and husband John; Joy Lynne Falkner and friend Tom Moon; and Christi Klopp and husband Jeffery; seven grandchildren; sister Marion Allred; many cousins and friends.
Honoring Fred as pallbearers will be grandsons, Evans Durnin and Caleb Falkner, Bill Crow, Fred Hill, Billy Bickham, John Durnin, and Jeffery Klopp.
The family would like to thank Dr. Anil Veluvolu, Dr. John Chandler, and Dr. Stewart Bundrick for their many years of care and friendship and the staff at Grace Home.
