Dorothy Milton Newman of Bude, MS passed away peacefully on February 15, 2018. She was 89 years of age, short of 90 years by only seven weeks. Born on April 6, 1928, in Franklin County, MS, she was raised and lived most of her life there. She and her husband, Claude, spent many happy years in Pascagoula when he was transferred from Standard Oil Cranfield to the Chevron Pascagoula Refinery. After retirement, they returned to Franklin County for their remaining years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Claude Newman, her mother Jessie Zumbro Milton, her father, Cecil Milton, sister, Elsie Jean Bankhead, brothers Charles Milton and Cecil "Pete" Milton. She is survived by her son, Hilton Murray, Jr. (Nell Murray), granddaughter, Shanna M. Luke, and great granddaughter, Emily Grace Luke; her stepson, Lloyd Newman, granddaughter Laura Myers, great granddaughter Alex and grandson, Dale Newman. Her many nieces, nephews and cousins completed her family.
Dorothy's favorite past-time was sharing "precious memories" of times gone by and remembering family and friends. She loved to shop and especially for shoes and purses, which she successfully passed on her love for good shoes and 'just the right purse' to her granddaughter, Shanna, and great granddaughter, Emily. She and Claude, joined by friends, enjoyed many trips to the Smokey Mountains and Gatlinburg, TN. Those were special times.
Having grown up in New Hope Baptist Church, she made a profession of faith at an early age. She worshiped as a charter member of Ingalls Avenue Baptist Church, Pascagoula, for 29 years and then with their move back to Bude was a member of Bude Baptist Church. Her faith was strong and now she has gone home to be with her loving Savior.
Services were held at Franklin Funeral Home on February 17, 2018 with Rev. Millard Moak and Rev. Charley Rempel officiating. Burial is at Midway Cemetery in Meadville.
Pallbearers are Will Zumbro, Steven Bankhead. T.J. Hawley, Jake Hawley, Tommy Hawley, Alex Nettles, and Tommy Milton.
