Funeral services for Mr. Donald Applewhite will be on Satuday, August 1, 2020, at New Salem Baptist Church in McCall Creek, MS at 2:00 PM, with burial to follow in the New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Thomas Wicker and Rev. Troy Burroughs will be officiating the services, with Franklin Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will be at New Salem Baptist Church on Saturday, August1, 2020 from 11:00 AM until time of service at 2:00 PM.
Mr. Applewhite, 88, of McCall Creek, MS passed from this life on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Meadville, MS. He was born on April 18, 1932 in McCall Creek, MS, to Mr. Edward Applewhite and Mrs. Nora Smith Applewhite.
He was a longtime member of New Salem Baptist Church where he faithfully supported the church and served as Deacon for 47 years. He worked for many years in the construction industry as a carpenter, building many houses in the surrounding area. He was known as being one of the best. He loved to spend time with his family, children and grandchildren. They were the light of his life. He was a very loving man that always took the time to share a kind word with anyone he met. He will be deeply missed.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Edward and Nora Applewhite; sisters, Hilda Sweeney, Edith Dunigan, Marinell Applewhite, and infant Nora Rae Applewhite; brothers, Harold Applewhite, Alton Applewhite, and Melvin Applewhite.
Survivors are his wife of 66 years, Frankie Carolyn Applewhite; daughters, Carrie Gill and husband Billy of McCall Creek MS and Debra Zeigler and husband Doug of McCall Creek, MS; sisters, Helen Ketteringham of Brookhaven, MS and Carolyn Smith of Brookhaven; brother, Glen Applewhite of Brookhaven, MS; 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren along with a very special family friend, Jimmy Cater.
Pallbearers are Corey Zeigler, Ryan Gill, Adam Brown, David Allen Magee, Jeremy Howell, and Jimmy Bryan.
Honorary pallbearers are Rogers Arnold, Kenneth Golman, Charles Chapman, Joel Stephens, Jamie Nations, and David Moore.
