Obituary

Clinton E. Carraway, a resident of Franklin County, Mississippi, passed from this life on Friday, March 4, 2022, at the age of 87.  He was born February 16, 1935, in Franklin County, Mississippi to H.E. and Irene Carraway.  He graduated from Franklin High School in 1954.  He served in the US Army and was stationed with the CIC Corps in Stuttgart, Germany.  He attended Co-Lin Community College and graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1962.  He and his wife lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for the next 45 years where they reared their three daughters.  He served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Zoar Baptist Church in Baton Rouge for 37 years.  He returned to Franklin County in 2007 and was an active member of Siloam Baptist Church.

He was employed by Uniroyal, Inc., in Baton Rouge, Louisiana for almost 17 years and continued at the same plant for the next three years after it was acquired by US Steel.  After US Steel closed, he worked as a cost accountant for three years at Ethyl Corporation.  Next, he worked full-time in his own accounting and tax service business well into his 80s.  He loved his Savior and Lord Jesus Christ, his family, friends and people in general.  He enjoyed his work and considered his clients as family.  The words that Jesus used to describe Nathaniel could be said of him, "Behold an Israelite (one) indeed in whom is no guile."

He was preceded in death by his parents.  He is survived by his wife of 64 years Nancy Carraway; daughters and sons-in-law Rhonda and Joel Petty of Franklin County, Sonya and Randy Ryder of Baton Rouge, LA, and Pamela and Chad Hitt of Liberty, SC; grandchildren Robert, Vivian, and Johnathan Ryder of Baton Rouge, LA, Joanna and Clint Petty of Franklin County; step-grandchildren Bruce Petty and Lauren (Andy) Williams of Denton, TX, and Grant Hitt of Liberty, SC; step-great-grandchildren Luke and Sam Williams of Denton, TX; a brother and his wife James Lloyd and Betty Jo Carraway of Franklin County; three sisters Elrea Hux and her husband James of Bogue Chitto, MS, and Annell Peek and Brenda Carraway of Baton Rouge, LA; as well as a niece, nephews, and other relatives.
