Obituary

Clarence Wayne Halford, 84, born April 17, 1930 in Bude, Mississippi to Larry W. "Pete" and Lela Smith Halford died peacefully at home while surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, July 27, 2014.
He was a graduate of Meadville High School and Mississippi State College. He worked for Fayette Hardwood Company before being drafted into the US Army. He served two years during the Korean War, spending time in Germany. He had a long, distinguished career in the oil and gas industry – spanning 55 years, 4 states, several companies and many consulting jobs after his retirement.

Upon graduation from college, in 1957, he went to work with Humble Oil Company in Natchez before moving to New Orleans, Louisiana as an accountant with Shell Oil Company. He started as an accountant and moved into the Operations Department where he had many different jobs in production throughout the years. Before returning to Mississippi in 1987, he was the Division Manager of the East Texas Production Division of Delta Drilling Company in Tyler, Texas.

He has been a member of the Methodist Church since 1949 and a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1952. He was a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers and is a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Sarah Pearl Higginbotham Halford; son, Kirby Wayne Halford and wife Pam; daughter, Sandra Gayle Halford-Amburg and husband James; grandchildren, Carmen Halford, Amanda Halford, Brandon Amburg and Kirby Amburg; sisters, Elsie Merle Quinn (Bill), Erma Lou Luckett (Tom) and Norabeth Halford.

Visitation will be at Franklin Funeral Home Friday, August 1, 2014 from 5:00 PM till 8:00 PM and continue Saturday, August 2, 2014, at 10:00 AM until time of service at 11:00 AM at Meadville United Methodist Church. Graveside service will follow at Midway Cemetery. Rev. Tim Sisk will officiate the services. Franklin Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Meadville United Methodist Church or Oak Grove United Methodist Church.
